A Higher Perspective

Last year, I had the amazing opportunity to minister to educators, students, and orphans in Haiti. I knew even before going that it would to be a very special trip, and that feeling was soon confirmed. Sure enough, even on the airplane ride over there, the Holy Spirit began speaking to me. I’ll start off by saying that I’ve flown on many airplanes in my lifetime, and am pretty familiar with how they operate, but this time was different. My seat was located directly above the left wing, which enabled me to have a perfect view of this pertinent apparatus. As we began taking off, God reminded me of the scripture verse from Isaiah 40:29-31, “He gives strength to the weary and increases the power of the weak…those who hope in the Lord will renew their strength. They will soar on wings like eagles…”

“Hmmm…an airplane soars,” I thought, “but not at first.” An airplane starts off slowly before gaining momentum, and when it lifts off the ground it feels shaky and unstable. The various parts of its wings open and close, then angle themselves in different directions as the airplane steadily moves upward. I was intrigued as I watched this happen firsthand from my seat window that day! Once the airplane reached a certain altitude, however, the shakiness stopped, and the ride became smooth and steady. The wings remained outstretched without any shifting movements necessary. Looking through the window, I was then able to see a beautiful, serene sky and a blanket of white, fluffy clouds beneath me.

The Holy Spirit reminded me in that moment that this is often what happens throughout our life’s journey. We go through many trials and circumstances where our faith is being tested. Like the parts on an airplane wing, we are forced to shift things around just to stay stable and to keep moving upward as the winds of doubt, fear, worry, or sorrow generate resistance to our objective. But what God was revealing is that He wants to elevate His people! He wants you to be able to live above your circumstances and not let the enemy shake you up with fear, or doubt, or anything contrary to God's will. If you can get passed the shaking, and push through the winds of resistance coming against you, you will not only get to experience His peace, but He’ll also give you a higher perspective.

So don’t lose hope in the process, Beloved, because in the end, you'll see things through eyes of wisdom. And the same winds that try to bring you down, will be the very winds that cause you to soar!

MOVE. MEASURE. MARCH.

March On!
