The Supremacy of Wisdom
There is always something new to learn. Every experience, whether good or bad, can be used as a life lesson to gain insight from and to assist us with future decisions. Sometimes decision-making becomes easier, while other times we can feel stuck between what we think we should do, and what we really ought to do. Have you ever felt that way? Have you ever had conflicting thoughts and emotions that have prevented you from making a decision at all? Luckily, there’s a way to stop that cycle.
The most important two components to obtaining the wisdom you need are a willing and teachable spirit. You have to be willing to submit to the supreme wisdom of your Heavenly Father AND be willing to seek and do what He says. His Word says in Proverbs 8:34, “Blessed is the man who listens to me, watching daily at my gates, waiting at the posts of my doors.”
Listen
We can become so self-reliant when making important decisions that we leave God completely out of the process. But remember that if it is important to you, than it’s definitely important to Him! The danger in doing things your way is that even if it seems good, it may not be the best decision for you. According to Proverbs 16:25, “There is way that seems right to a man, but in the end it leads to death.” Death isn’t always referring to a physical body. It could be the “death” of a business or of a relationship-anything that comes to an end. That is why we need ears that are ready to receive heavenly, spirit-lead insight. And a willingness to heed to what we’ve heard!
Watch
Have you ever watched the clock in anticipation of a special event? When you’ve been excited and were looking forward to something that is pending? That is how we are to be towards wisdom! There should be an eagerness to obtain it; a desire to experience it. I believe the reason verse 34 says to watch “daily” is because it is meant to be an ongoing process of eagerly looking out for the multi-faceted wisdom that God wants to reveal to you.
Wait
This is probably the requirement that is the most difficult for people to adhere to. I mean, who likes to wait for anything these days? We get impatient waiting at red lights and long grocery lines. BUT, we do it because we KNOW that the waiting process won’t last forever. We KNOW that eventually we’ll get our “green light” or get what we went to get. That is how we should approach “waiting at the posts of the doors” for wisdom. We are to wait with complete expectation, knowing that the doors to wisdom WILL be opened!
King Solomon was notoriously rewarded for seeking Godly wisdom above all else. As a result, not only was he blessed with wisdom greater than anyone else in human history, but God also provided him with a plethora of financial and relational blessings as well. Greatly blessed was he. Greatly blessed shall you be also!
