Make A Move

Almost everyone I know has played the classic game of checkers. In the beginning, the choices are easy to make and consist of moving single checker pieces diagonally forward one space at a time. As the game progresses, however, the options extend into jumping over multiple checker pieces and spaces to obtain more of the opponent’s pieces at a time. The game continues to increase in complexity as kings are established and given the authority to move in additional directions. This allows them the freedom and capability to cover even more ground while capturing their opponent’s pieces in order to win.

In many ways, your life is like a game of checkers! Regardless of where you are in the game, the one common factor is that a move is always required. You must make a move in order to start the game. You must make a move to cover more ground and see a difference. You must make a move to progress to the next level of freedom and authority. You never stop moving-- that doesn’t change! What DOES change is what that move looks like. Just like in a game of checkers, the dynamics of what is taking place around you will require new ways of strategizing. You will now have to think about the consequences of each move with focused intent, all while operating in newfound liberty. What you do at each level of the game matters! It is what will get you to this point.

In Luke 12:48, Jesus says “to whom much is given, much will be required.” Generally speaking, this means that the more freedom and capability you are given, the more responsibility you are expected to accept. God’s expectation is for you to be a good steward of the talents, time, resources, influence, and relationships He gives you. While this may seem daunting at times, know that you can expect God to come through for you in return! He will continue to provide promotion and provision with increased opportunities. And when you have proven yourself as a good steward at each level, you can expect successful outcomes!

But it all starts with a move, followed by a progression of moves. And even winning the game of checkers doesn't mean the motion simply means you’ve graduated to the game of chess!

Move. Measure. March.

March On!
