Rest As You Come and Go

It’s that time of year again. Frantic searching for the best deals and scratching off listed items bought for loved ones is the general theme over the next few days. This is the time of year when most places of employment require more help than usual to meet society’s needs. There is much to purchase, much to decorate, much work to do, much food to prepare, and many people to visit. It’s no wonder that so many people feel overwhelmingly stressed during an otherwise beautiful time of year. Do you ever feel like it’s hard to keep the focus on where it needs to be? To not get caught up in all the “doing,” but instead the “desiring” to simply celebrate the birth of Jesus with friends and family? In the midst of all the errands and deadlines, don’t forget that one of the best things you can do for yourself (and others) is REST.

Come and Go
“Come to me all who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest.” (Matthew 11:28)
While it’s important to rest your body to combat physical exhaustion, Jesus in this scripture, was also referring to rest for your soul. If you were to take just a few minutes a day to acknowledge Him, to seek Him in a quiet place—He will give you the rest you need. He beckons us to come to Him and experience the kind of peace that only He can offer. In Psalm 46:10, He urges to “Be still, and know that He is God.” The preeminent effect from being still before His presence is the realization of just how great and powerful He is! When we put God in His rightful place, nothing else seems as big and overwhelming. Our faith is strengthened and our trust is restored. And because of that, we can experience peace from His presence.
And that’s not where it ends. God is so good that once He fills you with His presence, His presence will follow and re-fill you as you go back to face life's demands.
He tells us in Exodus 33:14, "My presence will go with you, and I will give you rest.”
So once we come to Him for peace, we can go with Him in peace!
The long lists will remain and life’s demands will always be there. But so will the gift of God’s presence. This Christmas season, allow Him to give you rest as you come…and rest as you go!
MOVE. MEASURE. MARCH.
March On!
